Most people go to great lengths to keep their name out of government computers. I've been working for six months to get mine into one. But after losing most of my official documents in a move years back and then misplacing my passport separately last December and subsequently becoming ID-less, I've spent eight months now trying to gather enough proofs that I actually do exist to satisfy the NY state DMV.

That's right. I'm not just a name anymore, I'm also now a number: specifically a number in the NY state identity rolls. This is way more of an accomplishment than it has any right to be.

(I thought of that joke months ago. You can't imagine how eagerly I've been waiting to use it.)

... And I am officially pooped. Morpheus, take me away.

Well done! It's not easy. I had to jump through six months of hoops for Social Security to admit that I existed and give me a legitimate number, etc.

Congrats! Proving you are who you say your are to the government can be stupidly difficult.
