I bought one of those oscillating fans with a heat setting. This may have been a mistake: I'm not sure how I can ever be expected to get up from this chair ever again.

The good news: if the weather's as bad as expected, I have permission to work from home tomorrow.

The not so good: I'm not sure that will be nearly long enough.

Wait, do you--do you mean, like, a space heater, or is this some new wizardry of which I have not yet heard?

Basically, this. Not exactly my model, but close. It has a fan and a heating unit, so you can use it like a desktop fan or you can have it blow toasty-warm air at you. Space heaters, I think of as being larger, more powerful, and more prone to fire hazards; this turns off if it tips over, and the case doesn't seem to get warm. (Still I unplug it when I'm not home.)

The important part: my room was chilly, noticeably colder than the rest of the flat. Now I have this heat-generating cube I can situate on the arm of my chair, and just bask in the happy-toasty feeling, and it's glorious.

Fan with heat sounds absolutely perfect to me! Enjoy the heat and I hope you don't end up having to trudge through massive snow and cold temps.

Weather extremes - we had near record temperatures in Sydney yesterday - it was about 107 F on my back verandah yesterday - in the shade. I was giving thanks that we had bought a house with two air conditioners. Hope your weather improves soon.
