mid0nz declared she was "leaving fandom," which got me thinking about what this meant: what it meant to be fannish as opposed just to like a work, what that looked like in a fandom like Sherlock where so many people try to make a profit off their fanworks while still considering them fanfic and fanart, and separately, whether people who publicly declared they were leaving a fandom were really leaving at all.
It's about Sherlock specifically, obviously, but I think it's interesting to anyone who's lived the fannish life, whatever the fandom. Thoughts welcome!
PS - let me just say I approve of mid0nz's decision and wish her well. This is more a case of "ooh, nice springboard into those things you're often thinking about in the back of your head" than "let's make a substantive comment on that post on its own terms." So please keep that in mind.
