Oct. 2nd, 2014 08:50 pmThe Tree + Flower award over in the Tolkien fandom ended last week, and I won a few new shinies:
(1) First Place, ft. Dwarves: Beneath a Bitter Rain
(2) First Place, ft. Resident of Doriath: Girded
(3) First Place, ft. a Numenorean: When We Were Very Young
(4) Second Place, ft. Sauron: Ea
(5) Third Place, ft. Bilbo: Apple Bruised Makes Apple Pie
I'm very pleased to have won these awards, and also to have been beaten by some very worthwhile stories. Please check out all the winners, here. And of course those folks that didn't; the MPTT archive is just loaded with stories worth reading and reviewing.
(I linked to AO3 here, but that's mainly because MPTT seems to be down. I'm sure it will be fixed soon, they're almost never down. If you want to support this site --and please, please do, they're a great group-- you can find links to my stories and all the winning stories on MPTT at the general list of winners.)
(1) First Place, ft. Dwarves: Beneath a Bitter Rain
The War of the Ring did not only affect Gondor and Rohan. A look at the aftermath of the assault on Erebor and Dale.
(2) First Place, ft. Resident of Doriath: Girded
A conversation between Galadriel and Melian, on the nature of safety.
(3) First Place, ft. a Numenorean: When We Were Very Young
"And it came to pass that Tar-Palantir grew weary of grief and died. He had no son, but a daughter only, whom he named Míriel in the Elven-tongue; and to her now by right and the laws of the Númenóreans came the sceptre. But Pharazôn took her to wife against her will..."
(4) Second Place, ft. Sauron: Ea
"What do you think science is, at its root, but the pursuit of the spark that birthed the cosmos? We would be heretics, each and every one, were there room for heresy in truth." A conversation between Celebrimbor and Sauron in Eregion.
(5) Third Place, ft. Bilbo: Apple Bruised Makes Apple Pie
Bilbo-centric (obviously), near the tail end of the Hobbit. Spoilerific summary:After being injured at the end of the Five Armies, Bilbo receives some much needed care. Spoilers for the Hobbit book.
