a question for the whovians
Jun. 8th, 2014 05:15 amI'm getting into the Clara episodes, which have so far been underwhelming, but then again I only really "get" DW episodes on a second or third viewing. Anyway, I've noticed a certain similarity between Clara's look and behavior and CAL, the little girl who saves everyone in the "Silence in the Library" two-parter. Am I seeing things that aren't there, or is there actually supposed to be some kind of a connection between these two characters?

Date: 2014-06-09 11:56 am (UTC)My in-person friends and I were discussing Moffat's lackluster Dr. Who but brilliant Sherlock, and decided that the problem was that he's great at reinventing things, putting his own interpretation and stamp on them, but that's not what needed to happen with Dr. Who. If he wanted to do that, he should've been on board with #9. By the time #11 came about the modern incarnation of the character/universe was established to a certain extent, and could only tolerate so much reinvention.
I think it also helps that with Sherlock he's fleshing out modern details of an existing plot, as opposed to writing a whole new plot from scratch. Because if Sherlock had an over-arching plot as heavy-handed as Moffat's Dr. Who (the crack, River Song...), I wouldn't even be bothering. The Doctor's Wife is kind of heartbreaking because it shows how cool a character Matt Smith's incarnation could be, if he had a decent writer.
