Apparently today is Martin Freeman’s birthday. He is not eleventy-one but forty-two: the answer to life the universe and everything. Which really screams for something Hitchhikers related, but as much as I love him, Arthur’s character there doesn’t really lend himself to clips.

So instead, here’s Martin Freeman with Andy Serkis. I particularly love the Gollum impression at 0:45.

Apparently it’s also Soren Kierkegaard’s feast day in the Episcopal church, which is really quite cool. I don’t know nearly as much Kierkegaard as I should, but I still get a thrill that a philosopher who’s not also a pillar of the church like Aquinas has his own feast day.

Why would Kierkegaard get a feast day in the Episcopal church? I would guess that he was raised a Lutheran. He is certainly cheerful enough, lol. As a philosophy prof once said, what do you expect from someone named "Church-yard"?

You know, I'm not sure why he gets the special connection to the Episcopal church. I looked it up and the Lutherans do include him on the calendar of saints, though they don't call it a feast-day. It's at some point in November for the Lutherans.

I am guessing, but Kierkegaard just seems like a giant of Protestant intellectualism. I'm not that surprised he's earned a place in a few church calendars, and I expect it just comes down to which denominations set up such lists. Good question, though!
