The computer is off to the shop, and I’m reminded of just why I got a new computer: the old one is clunky, slow, and with three or four important keys (m… F4… space bar…) completely nonfunctional, I’m reduced to using a USB keyboard on top of it. The only one I have onhand is an ergonomic one which is so large it completely covers the mousepad. I’m headed back to the library as this seems to be one of the few places I can actually get work done and I still need to draft several sets of lecture notes for summer school today.

Through the glories of cloud computing most of my files didn’t even need to be transferred over. Certainly all my school files are right there in Dropbox, my music is in Spotify as soon as I download it to this machine, and a good chunk of my video-watching these days is done through Amazon anyway. I also found some downloaded videos I haven’t watched in ages, like the old animated Dilbert show and “Into the West.” Nostalgia! The one thing I forgot to take with me was a file I had started after midnight last night, with a blog post that was frankly brilliant or at least useful at helping me sort out my thoughts on the Hobby Lobby ACA lawsuit. I’d just rounded the 1,000-word mark and decided I wanted to finish it with fresh eyes tomorrow (today, which I guess was actually today then as well as I was writing after midnight) – just enough I don’t want to start over. And the file is saved locally on my computer. I was going to back it up but FedEx actually got here *early* for once.

But the file will be there when my computer gets back I guess. It does leave me in the awkward position of actually being involved in different discussions on the matter and having my thoughts only half worked out. Luckily I have more than enough RL stuff to keep me busy. Also, it’s brilliant and sunny outside, which is perfect zoo weather if I ever get enough done I don’t have to spend all my time working at the library. And as I have eaten lunch and want to get done in time to swing by the electronics store, I should really get going. Enjoy your Friday!

It is great how we no longer have to transfer endless files and can easily use different computers.I remember what a nightmare changing used to be!
