I saw fireowrks on the horizon tonight. It's a bit odd for a random Sunday night, and I was wondering what was going on. Mystery solved: today is apparently Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

This strikes me as really very cool. The world is so full of different people orienting their lives around different days and celebrations that there could be people preparing for a big celebration, when I wasn't even aware it was coming up. Kind of like how my Hindu neighbor makes me a gorgeous crepe-paper art piece to hang on my apartment door during Diwali, because she says people need something bright to look at during the feast in particular. A bit of color. As someone who struggles with depression, it's really a wonderful thought that people are happy and celebrating things I don't even know are going on. Quite often, there's some happiness out there even if I'm not able to be happy myself. It takes the pressure off and makes the world seem like a better place.

Anyway. A happy Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate it. I hope you had a good feast and that you get a sense of peace and rejuvenation from the holiday.

I think that's one of the super amazing things of living in a multicultural city, it always makes me feel like that, too, glad to know that there are so many cool things out there being celebrated and lived right now.
