Moffatt has certainly achieved fanfic of questionable quality in this 3rd season. While it was mostly fun to watch, it was like a meal made up entirely of a carrot. You enjoy it for the texture and the flavor but at the end of the day, you realize you've not had much in the way of substance at all. You're still hungry.
And despite what Moffatt says, his Sherlock actually comes of as a sociopath playing at trying not to be one. Yes, John matters to him as does Mycroft but I'm not sure how much is real concern for them as much as it is concern for what their loss would mean to his life.
