I’ve decided that the regency dress needs to come back. Think Pride and Prejudice. I can see myself being more comfortable in that style of dress than anything people wear today. Maybe even more comfortable than my standard trousers/blouse/blazer when I teach.

This really is coming out of left-field except for seeing some people online ooh and ahh over wedding gowns. It struck me that while I did dream about a wedding gown growing up, it was always from the wrong century.

I've always imagined (and written) the upper class female hobbits of the Shire as dressing in a somewhat Regency fashion, rather than the "Ren faire" type outfits they wear in the movies.

Here's my idea of Primula and little Frodo:

I've always loved the Regency dresses in costume dramas, too, and because of this have always been weirdly chagrined about the fact that I don't look good in an empire waist, even though I've never actually worn Regency clothes.
